This is the first in a new series of Dixieland arrangements which includes some of the favorite tunes performed regularly by my student Dixieland band called the “Bearcats”. This talented ensemble represented our university in a national student Dixieland band competition. Our ensemble competed against 62 other collegiate ensembles throughout the country and was one of three to compete in the final competition at that years National Association of Jazz Educators convention in Chicago, Illinois, placing second. Not bad for a small teachers college in the middle of Iowa!
