Writing a duet based on this well known etude was a challenge for trying to make it sound as musical as possible demands attention. Each player needs to contribute equally to the performance and by switching the melody between the two players, each has an equal responsibility. By changing back and forth, they are also able to rest while playing the supportive parts. This is a wonderful piece to program on a recital as well as material to be used in a trumpet studio.
