Once in a while I even surprise myself.

This arrangement started out with an introduction which sounds much like the beginning of the hymn Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling and flowed into Near the Cross. The intro fit beautifully as a counter melody and after beginning the hymn in the organ as a very ”old time” sounding version of <u>Near the Cross,  I included a trombone part which sounds much like the ground bass from the Pachelbel Canon we all know and love.

Then I had to change from ¾ to 6/8 in order to have the organ play a more updated version; so the brass set up the 6/8 feel and the organ continues with the newer form of the hymn.

Throughout the arrangement the brass trade off with the organ for textual contrasts and finally at the end, the brass slow to the original tempo and the organ joins them for the last cadence.

Some have asked, where do these ideas come from?… Heavenly intervention.
